Born in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, in 1975. Enjoys the satoyama landscape as a child of nature.
Graduates Japanese-style Painting course in the Department of Formative Arts at Seian University of Art and Design from 1998 to 2001, research student the following year. Asian Art Conservation Department Fellow at Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) in 1999, internship with Josephine Press (California) in 2002. Return to Japan and change name from Makiko Okamoto to Makiko Berry in 2008.
President of Willpower Arts Institute, Manager for the Berry Branch of the Japan Calligraphy Educational Foundation, Member of the Kyoto Japanese-style painters Association.
